In Greece, IOM is focusing on responding to the Mediterranean migrant’s crisis, in support of the Greek Government and in cooperation with all other agencies involved. IOM currently implements interventions within the areas of emergency, preparedness and response, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, healthcare, and psychosocial assistance, assisted voluntary return of migrants, migration and development, resettlement and repatriation, family reunification, counter human trafficking, assistance to vulnerable migrants

Context:
In the framework of the emergency situation regarding the migrants, asylum seekers and refugees across Greece, IOM Greece is establishing a pool of candidates interested to join the organization as soon as possible. The present Action shall contribute towards the direction of creating up to 200 accommodation places and a full spectrum of quality services for the emergency accommodation of unaccompanied minors in need of immediate protection. The project “Development of Emergency Accommodation facilities for Unaccompanied Children (UMC)’’ will be implemented by IOM Greece in cooperation with the Special Secretariat for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum. The project is funded by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum from the donation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark in the framework of the Action of Development Engagement “Support to unaccompanied refugee and migrant children in the Hellenic Republic”.
Under the overall supervision of the Program Assistant and the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide support in implementing project activities related to psychosocial matters for UMCs in the assigned accommodation facility.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1.Assess the psychological and / or psychiatric health of the UMCs and report on psychological assessment.
2. Provide psychological support and development of activities and interventions, aiming at
a) anxiety management,
b) handling of conflicts and abrupt behavioural changes,
c) coping with crises related to mental or psychological pressure,
d) psychological discharging of the beneficiaries structure,
e) improving interpersonal relationships, and;
f) cultivating skills and talents.
3. Participate in the design and implementation of interventions to inform and raise awareness to the UMCs.
4. Refer UMCs to primary health care provided by relevant partners to the project, if deemed necessary based on the UMC’s mental health status.
5. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- University degree in Psychology from an accredited academic institution with minimum two years of relevant work experience.
- Licensed Psychologist, with professional license to practice in Greece.
Experience
- Previous experience in a similar role preferred.
- Familiar with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees preferred.
- Previous experience working with children preferred.
- Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment an advantage.
- Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills.
- Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc).
- Valid driver’s license with at least five years driving experience an advantage.
Languages
- Fluency in English and Greek (written and oral) is required.
